Dealing with shoulder pain? Whether it’s from poor posture, old injuries, or overuse, here’s the truth – shoulder pain doesn’t have to take months to heal.

Today, I’m giving you the exact steps to start feeling better now without resorting to ineffective methods like isolation exercises. Let’s jump in.


What’s Causing Your Shoulder Pain?

The most common culprits are:

  • Poor sleep posture: Side sleepers often put too much pressure on their shoulder joint.
  • Repetitive strain: Daily habits like using a mouse can slowly wear down your shoulder. In fact anything you do daily at work or in the gym can cause a shoulder strain or impingement.
  • Forward posture: That modern-day slouch pulls your shoulders forward and out of alignment, leading to pain.

Why Isolation Movements Don’t Work

A lot of people use isolation exercises (like band work or the infamous “soda can” isolation movement) to rehab their shoulders. But here’s the thing: your shoulder pain didn’t come from using just one muscle, so why try to fix it by isolating just one?

The shoulder is a complex joint, and to heal properly, you need to work all the muscles that support it. This means focusing on full-range, multi-muscle movements, which are far more effective at speeding up recovery and preventing future pain.


The Quick Fixes You Can Do Today

  1. Adjust your sleep position: Add a pillow under your arm to relieve pressure on your shoulder.
  2. Change your posture: Start with small, chest-opening stretches to pull your shoulders back into alignment. Always in a pain free movement range.
  3. Skip the isolation exercises: Focus on movements that engage the entire shoulder complex instead. I have a series of videos on this or take an upcoming class, there’s one this Friday.
